eBay fee structure - for selling - it's bloody rediculous

Maybe it's because I'm getting old...........maybe not, but what is all this fee structure bs with eBay??

I can't understand why they don't just have a flat rate of 2% for example - on everything - PERIOD.

I went there to sign up to be a seller and after reading everything I just closed out the site and thought "what the.........." haha. It's almost like it's a scam the way they're trying to make it so difficult with all the levels of charges.

signed........old-n-grumpy ebay guy:)

thoughts????

Everybody hates a winner. LOL Gates, Bush, eBay... the list goes on.

Personally, I love eBay. I have been a member since the day it went online and I have seen every change and revision since it's inception.

Some I agreed with and some I didn't. However, without the facts, perhaps I just didn't understand the ones I didn't like.

How can anyone question the manner and method that eBay uses on final fees without ANY knowledge of the overall balance sheet. Cost to eBay per auction. Fixed overhead. Variable overhead. Cost of server maintenance and shareholer overhead.

Without those and a zillion other facts, you simple can't understand eBay's reasoning for their fees.

I hear people ***** all the time about eBay. People hate change. They feel secure in their little rut and hate to get out and do anything new or to try to understand anything new.

I have over 1000 feedback on eBay which probably means twice or three times that number of transactions. In that time, I made 2 or 3 claims. All ending in my favor. Got ripped once when it first started by sending a MO and never getting the item ($25).

In all this time eBay has NEVER made an error in figuring the fees and has NEVER taken more from my account (I pay fees automatically) than was correct. In fact, eBay and PayPal have a better error rate than either of my FDIC banks. LOL

I don't believe I have EVER seen the eBay site go down. And, I spend hours per day on it. Every day.

I don't mean to rant on but when I hear people crying about eBay I feel like saying...FINE, Don't use it. Go to another auction site. LMAO Yeah, right. Good luck. I use those other sites and I NEVER get the response OR PRICE that I get on eBay.

eBay is the best.

Their performance is exemplary.

The end result of using eBay has always been profitable for me as a seller. As a buyer. AND, as an eBay shareholder.

So, they have managed to satisfy everyone all the way around with the exception of those who just can't seem to stand things any way other than the way they think it should be.

Like I said, sorry for the rant but, I just think the other story needs to be told as well.

Good information.

Yes - I don't understand - or haven't even tried to understand the fee structure.

I do not have any problem paying the fees - what ever they may be. It's the way they set it up that I simply have a problem with.

The only point I was trying to make here was that why can't they make it really simple? Charge 2%, 4%, 5% etc. for everything you sell........just one flate rate.

Gawd, by the time I read through all the different charges I was really turned off. Not because I was having to pay for the service - I understand that - I am completely willing to do that, if I agree to the charges - no problem. I'm not a penny-pinching tight wad - quit the opposite actually - as you can see with all the stuff I buy - drum related. I would just like it to be simpler.

For instance: If I have an item that I want to sell for $10,000 & I want to put a Reserve Bid on it I'd like to be able to go to ebay and click a button that will show me what my eBay cost will be if I sell the item for $10K. I would gladly pay the Reserve bid charge plus 2% or whatever the percent they charge. But help me out here if I'm wrong...........what is all the different fee structures they have = so much up to $50, then after $1,000 this much etc. I don't get it. Why would I pay more of a percent for selling something for $5,000 than if I sell something for $50. Is it because the money that's changed hands is "heavier" load of money and it costs more to move it? Ya - I'm being a little flippant here but you can see what I mean I hope. I'd think it's just as easy of a transaction for $50 as it is for $5,000........one or two clicks and away you go.

If I sell something for $49 and the charge is $1.5% then I'd expect it to be 1.5% for my $10,000 item too - if you understand my point here.

I just like easy & fare that's all.

Or - am I completely missing something?

I buy stuff all the time on eBay & I'd like to be a seller right now too.

I'm just trying to talk this through and get information..........

I do know of once that eBay did go down in a few regions around the country.

I know this of course, because I had a Zildjian K ride up for auction at the time... with only a few bids up till the last hour and a half, like a lot of auctions go.

Anyway... people could not log on to eBay, and the damn thing wound up having a high bid of $105 !!!

They acknowledged that the system had gone down, but couldn't do anything about it because they had "no procedure in place" to deal with this kind of occurrence.

Anyhow, I contacted the high bidder, and we worked out a more reasonable price for the cymbal between us.

As far as I can figure, it's about 12 to 14 percent of your selling price that goes to eBay and PayPal fees.

Is that about right, Kapperdog ??

Well.........okay 12-14% That's good. So why not just have it laid right out.

One sentance.............to sellers.......here it is.

"If you want to sell something here it will be 14% - that will include all ebay & PayPal fees." SIMPLE - NO???
