The 63 Star catalog in VDG has a photo of the Star version of that drum. Nice...

An identical drum is currently up for sale on eBay, item 371656774044, wearing a Champion badge. The seller is asking $199 BIN. Construction appears identical. Is it just me, or have all of you noticed the very high prices seller are asking for these MIJ snare drums lately? Granted, this drum is all original, but the price just seems over the top!

I just finished detailing the Eastern and can assure you that is the exact same drum, right down to the straps. Looks to have the same snare bed too.

I think some ( not all ) do ask more than what they are worth. I'd personally pay $100 for that snare in that shape ( maybe a little more ) but $120 max. It doesn't have anything so different or rare that you just wanna jump through fire for it. Now yours with the Eastern Badge, for that I would because it's never been seen. But that's me.

Jay... you are correct in regards to price on this drum. True, it is all original and that alone commands a higher price. But, there's nothing special about the color to warrant the asking price. Having a badge that is rare does command higher prices... even though it would be the same drum. For myself, I like to find MIJ snare drums that have cool and unusual wraps. I'm fortunate enough to have both a Pearl Fantasia and Peacock Pearl snare drum. Really cool wraps!

Wow! My first kit was an Eastern New York. A rent to buy from a dealer who had a showroom in his house in Levittown, Long Island in 1964. It was a white sparkle 4 piece kit. I'm restoring the snare (only drum left of the kit). I've been searching for the throw off, and badges. and I couldn't believe it when I saw your post. It was one of the best sounding snares I've had, except for the ones I've built. :) But, the lugs are different. Mine are Slingerland style. They are the originals. I think I remember the dealer bragging the drums were made exclusively for his dealership.

Wow that is so cool. Thanks for sharing that info.

Does yours have the pronounced snare beds as well?
