Earthtone Goatskin heads

Anyone have any experiences with them? From what I have read are pretty darn impressive, but I anyone actually try them on any type of vintage drum? How does it compare to calfskin?

There is an article in the most recent NSMD about calf skin heads..

Rob Cook goes over them in detail with his opinions about them...

Good read if you can pick up a copy.

I got the Earthtone heads for top and bottoms for my 1929 Super-Sensitive. I had to soak them in water to get them to fit on the shells since they were sized for modern drums. Then I had to sand down the bottom head as it was way too thick to allow enough snare response. After that, they sound okay.

at over $30 a pop, I wouldn't get them again. the drum is dry- that's what i like about it. but with these heads, which are also dry, it's borderline dead. honestly, the drum sounded better when it had Remos on it. i kind of prefer thin, brighter mylar heads on it to give it a certain balance. actually, a perfect balance.

so maybe if you have a shell that's too bright the heads would function to balance it out.

Can someone who has the issue just scan the article and put it here? Thanks.

Also more specifically I am interested on how it sounds on wood drums I have heard bad experiences with metal drums and not sounding too good.
