Early Tempro snare?

Loading...

Anyone know enough about Tempro to know if this badge is from an early run? I certainly don't know, and from what I can find online this was one of the earlier badges. Also, this 6-lug 5x14 drum does have the reinforcement rings, and I believe those were later dropped.

Anyway, I probably overpaid ($35 at a thrift store), but will still try to turn it for a profit. Structurally perfect with everything present and accounted for and working perfectly. A good cleaning and polishing and she'll be in near mint shape. I will post some pics when I get her cleaned up.

So when was this badge used? Also, what is this wrap color called? It looks like that Gold Strata on the Ludwigs from the late '60s.

Thanks in advance!

I believe the wrap is called "Tigers Eye."

Not sure on the exact years it was used, but it was an earlier badge. $35 isn't a bad price, especially if it's in good shape. That isn't a common wrap and I do believe that Green Glass Drum has it right with " Tiger's Eye "

Hello OldschoolSC

That is a nice find at 35.00 for sure

The badge is an earlier version pictured here is a similar Tempro pro badge from the same period I am guessing the pro was used on the eight lug snares and just Tempro for the six luggers and to confuse matters more there was also an identical looking badge that spelled the word Tempo rather Tempro the later Pearl made Tempro kits had rectangular shaped plastic badges black in color with the word Tempro in gold

both styles used the two crossed drumsticks on the "T"

Check it out.

There are these Brands all with similar badges:

Tempo

Tempo pro

Tempro

Tempro Pro

Can you repeat those Brand names 5 times real fast?

I have a Tempo kit with the typical black oval badge with "World's Supreme Quality" below the name. It is definitely made by Star. I believe that Tempro is a Pearl stencil. Back in the day, line became very blurred!

Salty I have been doing internet searches for Star made Tempo kits like yours for a few years those seem to be pretty rare and another example of what began as a Star label and later became a Pearl

Yes, I think you are right, sir. From what I have researched, this is not an isolated example. I suppose the bottom line is, if you like the sound and the look of the drums, it really doesn't matter if Pearl or Star made them. God, I must be getting older!!! I'm no longer a purist!
