Early Superstar finish

Loading...

Hi!

I'm about to buy an early Tama superstar set with re rings. The kit isn't in the best condition cosmetically, the kick and floor tom are severely sunburnt. I'm hoping to be able to repair or redo some of the finish. What I'd like to find out is what kind of finish it is, not poly right? Cellulose?

I'm attaching a photo so you can see what they look like.

Cheers/

Jonas

The early Superstars (in traditional depths... not so much the later power sizes) are amazing drums. Those ones look to be the 'super maple' finish which is maple in colour, not timber, the Superstars are Japanese birch drums of course. I used to have a 'mahogany' set before I got my Radio Kings. Would love to get another set in the super maple which is my favourite of the finishes.

Here's an example through google images:

Seems like the color would be Natural Maple, the finish on the first few years was not shiny though, matt maybe satin. I don't know if it's Poly or Cellulose.
