Early 70's Gretsch BOP kit, 18,14,12,14 w/hardware

Loading...

Offering for your consideration an original Gretsch Jazz kit in BOP sizes with the original hardware. Jasper shells. Sizes are 14 x 18, 14 x 14, 8 x 12, and 5 x 14 COB 8 lug snare. SS1 badges on each drum with the phrase "That Great Gretsch Sound". The paper tags are intact on each drum and all the original mufflers are as well. The original bearing edges are also intact. The Black Nitron wrap is in very good conditional condition as are the chrome parts. The bass drum has the original drum heads and I suspect both toms have one original head. The snare has newer heads and 40 strand wires. All the hardware functions well and the stands have the original rubber feet. All the tension rods, washers and hoops are original to this kit. The original drum key is with the kit. This was a one owner kit that had been unused for a number of years before I acquired it.

I asked a local pro Jazz drummer to come by to authenticate the kit's originality and value, Steve Maxwell has seen pictures of the kit and indicated this is a very rare kit and even rarer with a Black Nitron wrap. Steve mentioned that Gretsch offered chrome bass drum hoops with or without inlays in this era. There is no evidence of the chrome hoops ever having inlays on this bass drum. The original owner had passed away a number of years back and his brother (who was also a musician) sold me the kit. I asked about the bass drum inlays and he said the kit was all original just the way his brother ordered it when new other than some new drum heads. Steve indicated he would value just the 18, 14, 12 drums with the rail mount, floor tom legs, bass drum spurs and cymbal arm at $6000 to $6500 US if they were on consignment in one of his stores. The links are for a couple of vintage Gretsch BOP kits that Steve has advertised in his Chicago store. Same sizes, rewrapped, some holes plugged and one has had bearing edges redone for $4500 US. Neither has the factory cymbal arm like my kit nor the snare and hardware.

The last picture is of Tony Williams playing a similar BOP kit.

This kit looks gorgeous and sounds amazing! More pictures are available so don't hesitate to ask. Priced at $6000.00 US for the four piece kit with the hardware plus shipping. This is a rare opportunity to own such an iconic kit. Please PM me with any questions or requests for more pictures.

Great set! The 4 bolt tom rail on the bass drum and the L-arm and floor tom bracket on the 8x12 tom put this set in a very narrow time period. Don't have the info with me but I think we're talking early to mid 70's.

Thx orangemi. It is indeed a very narrow window as you indicated.

BTW: I love the natural maple finish of your kit!

Barry! Great kit. GLWS!I saw your FB Upbeat for kids..... Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2Clapping Best of wishes from the far south!!

Thank you for the positive feedback Heraldo! It would be nice to keep the BOP kit, but I prefer larger drums. The sale will help with some reno work on my home and pay for some items required to refurbish some UPBEAT - Drums For Kids kits (new heads, missing parts, cymbals, hardware, etc.).
