Nice kit. Never heard of those heads before. Any idea what NOS means? I'm using some supremes, similar lugs I think. Can you hear the head difference?Thanks, again, sweet kit!
NOS=New Old Stock
The "Supreme" heads on your kit are likely the original heads from the 60s-70s.
I highly recommend you try Aquarian Z-100 coated heads. They are closest to the original formula used on these old kits. Finding the Remo "Encore" heads was a fluke for me. The Aquarians are super for these old drums. If your drums are 3 ply, especially, they will be the best you can get, if they are the thicker 6 or 9 ply, just about any head will work, depending on the sound you are after.
The thin shells have a sound all their own and the Z-100 fits that sound nicely. I use them on all my thin shelled snares, exclusively, and they are wonderful. If your local drum shop does not carry them, you can order them directly from Aquarian. Roy Burns knows we are using them for this purpose and will accommodate any of the VDF members, if he can.
You can use any bottom head you desire, I use the Attack pack, it is cheapest and works well for reso heads.The best deal on those is through Zzounds. Tell them you want a price match to American Musical Supply, have both pages open when you order, that way you get the best deal.
As for a bass head, I use a single ply Evans EQ1 coated for the response. Again, I am running these on thin 3 ply shells. If your drums have a reinforcement ring, these are the best heads you can use, bar none. The multitudes will tell you to use Remo Ambassadors, I prefer the Z-100 because it is more supple out of the box. The Ambs are stiff and unforgiving, comparatively.
Let's see your drums. Inside and out. That way we know what you are doing and can give you better advice.
Cheers!

These are the best packs going, and NO ONE can touch these prices. If you can deal with them up top, go for it. I and most of the guys here that use them, use them for reso heads.
