Early 60's Trixon kit

Drumaholics right! Just had a close look over each cymbal and they are Super Zyn's. 16" hats, 20" crash (with rivets) and 22" ride... still nice to have with the kit though ;)

Now how did I know that just by looking?

I'll never tell.

But thanks just for taking a "gander" at those.

What's best to give the cymbals a clean without damaging finishes so I can see if there are any distinguishing marks?

Best not to clean them at all. Collectors love the aged look/patina.

Nice score.

From Deano

That is a beautiful kit. As the others have mentioned you made a very good score. To find a kit with all the original pieces is a miracle. I wish the PO of my Trixons would have kept them. I would bet there are many here who would be interested in the kit. I'm sure Diamond will be chiming in soon.

ha ha Deano...

Ganders..the kit is a TX3 (red pearl) 1963, it has the new square lugs with the black gaskets that were added instead of the teardrop lugs in early 63'

price..only the drumkit..looking at 1k + especially as you have the snare also...would love to see a pic of the:

original snare box, and foot pedal,- pedals usually sell for approx £60

great find and definately a winner mate!

not sure about cymbals as hard to confirm what make!

There is a member in California who might be interested in the Super Zyns. He has contacted me about buying some of mine. I will let you know if you want.

There are a couple of odd things about this kit ----It is a real find in my opinion,by the way----after 45 years with Trixon drums, because it is almost all original. Very rarely found. Diamond is correct in his wrap code, dating would be 1964 likely. There will be a stamp inside the shell that tells you. I have a set of 63's, with teardrop lugs but straight through shells in inch sizes----an uncommon combination. This one would post date mine and may also have Birch shells. The bass drum has a centrally located tom mount. The tom mount was almost always offcentre ,with another mount for the cymbal arm symmetrically offcenter on the other side. The central location of the tom mount suggests ,that it was originally a double tom settup. Older Trixon double tom kits utilized two separate tom mounts(one in place of the cymbal arm mount----with the cymbal arm mount moved central and forward) but around '65 a double tom mounted on a central tree mount came out although these were rare. The model was 2490. There is also another mount forward and way over to the right,on this kit, a very uncommon location for Trixon and the mount looks odd( photo is poor). It looks like a Sonor mount to me. One of the stands is a Premier and the other, with the double struts, I know I have seen somewhere( Meazzi?). Having the original hi-hat clutch is fantastic----they are great clutches , beautiful and functional and almost always ended up in a drawer or parts bin for unknowns.I've seen them go for over 50.00.

You have a wealth of knowledge mate ;) quite enjoying finding out all this info. As retrosonic said the old guy did play with many bands at the BBC! Will take some good pictures of everything the weekend and post them on here to see what you think. Opened the stick packet last night and it's got the old skin leaflet folded up inside (see pic). The snare case is actually premier... wiped the dust off the badge doh! Posted a couple of pics of the pedal as requested aswell

You know, I love my 1959 Gretsch Set, but my dream to to own a set of Trixon Telstars in a really unique, cool color. For me, as a 60s drummer, that is the ultimate. I'd never complain about anything again!
