Early 60's Sonor Teardrop - Wrap ID and Spare Parts Last viewed: 10 seconds ago

I think that "split" badge puts them at pre 65 although my 62's are thicker than 3 ply and don't have re rings.

VERY nice kit.

These early 60's beech Sonors sound fantastic. Nice find.

From JFBL

Hi Everyone,Super excited to pick these up for a good price the other night, I think this is an early 60's Sonor Teardrop kit with original finish. This is an awesome looking wrap and looks original to me. I used them at rehearsal that night and they sound beautiful, wide open and full of life. I haven't popped the heads off yet to look, but the seller said the toms are three ply beech with re-rings and the bass drum is six ply beech with re-rings, not sure if it was typical to have differing ply counts on drums in the same setup, or lends itself to maybe a mid 60's transition era of some kind. No extra holes. I have the tom arm post itself, but I think I need the hardware receiver piece that sits in the bass drum itself, it doesn't seem to fit like it should. Also I need ONE bass drum rod and claw and ONE floor tom leg to keep it original. If anyone has an idea about any of that stuff please let me know and of course any feedback or opinion at all is most welcome. The plan is to keep them original and play them!

A great looking kit.-------- I may have your parts . I will look. The best thing is, I am in Toronto ,---- every weekend. Easy shipping! maybe take a closer look, at that bass/tom mount---see if there is anything missing.

Here is my app. 1960 (probably 1957-58) early teardrop kit. It's certainly got a centered tom mount on the bass drum.

Hey guys,

And thanks for the thumbs up on my teardrops. Yes, that kit is sweet, and I was very lucky to find it. Actually, the kit and snare drum did not come together. I first found the kit on German eBay. It was in very bad structural shape (ply separation, cracked plies) and I had to have it repaired (by one of the best drum builders here in Sweden, who did a fabulous job), including the bearing edges recut, before I could start using it. I also had it down in parts, going through every little detail myself, mostly polishing, oiling, cleaning etc.

Pretty soon after I found the kit, the snare drum surfaced on a Danish drummers' site. I immediately jumped on it. The snare drum was in fairly good condition from the beginning, so I have only had it apart for cleaning and "light servicing". The bearing edges could probably do with a recut, but I haven't had it done and it's not likely that I will.

I use this kit in a big band. It sounds fantastic and feels great to play.

Hey all, so I took some more snaps and have a better idea of what I'll need. Good news, both the bass drum and the mounted tom inserts are there for the mounted tom.

Working bass drum mounted tom post.
