Early 60's Ludwig Duco Set Last viewed: 20 seconds ago

Let me start off with, I have no pictures......... :)

OK... Let's assume no major issues.... Good condition

I am going to look at an early 60s Ludwig set in duco finish tomorrow

[COLOR="Red"]Jazz Festival snare... 9x13... 14x14.....14x22[/COLOR]

No stands or bass pedal

Let's assume bass mounted cymbal arm is not there (are they ever?)

This doesn't appear to be a Club Date sizes, am I correct?

Wrong size FT for early 60s... should be 15x12

Wrong size ride and bass for mid sixties... should be 8x12 and 14x20

So I'm thinking it could be a '62 or so Combo kit and a 14x14 FT

has been added or ordered with?

The Combo looks like it was offered consistently with a Jazz Festival,

and a 9x13....14x22 from early 60s to '67 by our catalog scans.

So, the main question... what's the value of the set in the [COLOR="Red"]highlighted sizes[/COLOR] ?? Again, good condition, no extra hardware...

Some input Tonight or Early Tomorrow would REALLY BE APPRECIATED... this thing just came up this afternoon, and I'm scrambling to get prepped.

I'd pay no more than $450 tops......first, its not a real matched kit, second, its duco finish......duco is not as valuable as wrapped finishes, and third, its probably nickle plated club date hardware. A duco finish jazz festival is not worth anywhere near say a black oyster one is......but I still wouldn't pay more that $450 for the whole set.

i wanted to respond to ludwig-dude , the kit kevin was implying to is for sale listed on this forum, 2ndly clubdate drums came in the same sizes as the classic's did from 8x12 all the way to 14x26, 3rdly if you ever find this nice of a kit for $450.00 i'll buy them from you all day long, this was a custom order kit, i bought it from the original owner who is very much alive and has a very large ludwig collection, this kit has the center mounted cymbal arm with the tilter and the clipper tom mount, kevin that asked the original question is a neighbor of mine and is new to the vintage collecting game, i have been collecting for 41 years all my drums are original no re wrapped which kills the vintage value by 60% all my ludwig,leedy slingerland, gretsch kits are original, i am not jumping on you ludwig-dude but the advice you were dispensing was not accurate, as i stated i have been collecting for 41 years, i learn something new all the time, thank you, mark

Ludwig drum kits didn't always perfectly mirror the catalog configurations, which were rarely updated. My first kit, which I bought used in 1977, was a champagne sparkle Ludwig Club Date set in the exact configuration you describe. I suspect that there was a bit of a transition time in the mid-60s with the 14" tom replacing the 15" before the change to the smaller bass and rack tom. This is just my guess. Of course the Jazz Festival gave way to the Pioneer and then to the Acrolite. The Club Date set saw many changes during the 60s.

I do partially agree with both sides. Ludwig is the only brand of vintage drums I buy. I study them daily and feel I know almost everything about the 1960's sets.

I think Ludwig-Dude was just giving an estimate for an un-seen set(No Pictures)...as your Ludwig clubdate is a fine example of a factory matched set. I do believe that even though it might have been a custom order back in the day.The 14 inch floor with a 13 and 22 is still a less desirable configuration. I would not say your set is worth $450. But, I would say it is worth just below $1,000. Just my opinion. Mind you I wouldn't be willing to pay that much for a set. But, I'm sure someone would.
