Early 1970's buddy rich slingerland snare Q

Loading...

I have a early 70's buddy rich slingerland snare drum 14"x4" and was wondering if someone could help me find a good snare wire for it ? I have never replaced a snare wire and the wires I have seen do not have a way to attach them to the clamp. Do you have to buy anything else when replacing the wire?Any help would be great. Thanks for helping a newb.

quick-nick!...

No need to take/supply a picture on this one! The 1970 Slingerland Buddy Rich 4X14 came only ONE WAY with regard to the throw/strainer,... the Zoomatic... plus a standard butt, not an extended. I have BOTH 1970 BR 4X14's, the WMP and the COW, and both feature the Zoomatic w/standard butt. I'll attach a pic of my WMP model. This should be the throw/strainer that you have on yours... is it? If so... wires are a simple matter as they attach at both ends with snare cord on this particular drum. Have a look!

That's the one except mine has two screws where your holes for the wire are and a bar is used to clamp down... Nice snare BTW. Also how rare is a slingerland kit with the buddy rich snare, rack toms 12x8,13x8,14x9,a 16x15 floor tom, and a 20x14 in blue pearl? As far as I can tell they are from early 1973? According to the #s. Thanks for your help, Nick

Nick!...

Yeah... because strap was originally used with this year/model Zoomatic on the 1970 BR 4X14 snare drum, although I prefer snare cord and use the holes accordingly. Yours would be correct as shipped by Slingerland. Reference this fine piece by our own Dr. CJW, inarguably THE Slingerland authority, bar-none: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_5_strainers_zoomatic-8.html
