I think these heads first appeared in the 70's and were Kevlar material. many were used for marching snares. that's about all I know!

+1 what, Mike said. As far as I know, those are marching drum heads. 'Heavy.'

Back in the day I was a pretty hard hitter I used that head on my main snare for years. They wore like iron but sounded a little boxy. I think I went through 4 or 5 of them. Have fun
I have a bass drum head 26'' almost new !
I bought one for my 20" bass drum back when they first came out. Their big gimick was that you could play it even if the head had a hole in it...it was supposed to be indestructible. That thing sounded terrible !
I have 2 NOS of these heads, & have gotten other vintage drums set up w/ these . When tuned & tensioned properly they give your snare the sound of a formica kitchen table.

LOL
they are a little rough sounding.... havent seen much about them online.

I had one on my Ludwig Coliseum back in the mid 80's. The Kevlar was supposed to be "unbreakable" but eventually the fibers did start to stretch at the spot where I hit it and finally opened up into a hole, although it didn't tear across the head the way mylar often does. I had been using a Hydraulic Evans before so I don't know if the sound was "improved" or not.
interesting, thanks for all the feedback. the head is on my fathers supra.
its been on there as long as i can remember. still is.
