Dunett Stainless Drums

Hi Everyone

Im very keen on one of Bonhams Stainless repro kits by Ronn Dunett. I may be onto one of thee 100 made 26" 15" 16" 18" 14" x 6.5", but as what I see as a kit for life...I need more knowledge on them before selling my kits & buying them.

I have the odd gig on the coast here in Western Australia will the drums be affected by the salt air or are they made from the marine type stainless steel the same as boat rails are made from or can they rust like other stainless?

Was told from one of the local drum shops here that those drums are only 0.5mm wall thickness with no bearing edge! Do these drums have the special Dunett frozen bearing edges to stop them folding in or do they have a bearing edge?

I would love to hear once again from those with experience on these type of drums as it is a large investment & I really do need to convince someone else apart from myself ! Thankyou.

Thanks Mark,

The last set I saw go was $10K AUD reduced from $12K I did'nt know then there were only 100 made. I could'nt find much on the site either I have heard he uses liquid nitrogen or something on the edges. Thanks for the reply.

Hopefully I can reply to a question about one of my products without getting attacked...

To answer your questions...

The Bonham Memorial set shells were produced from the highest quality stainless steel available. They are impervious to rust and the salt air of Western Australia (where I have been BTW - beauty!).

The shells do not have formed edges - they are straight and finely honed by hand then polished by hand. I did not use the cryo process in the production of these drums. The shell material is 16 gauge - about 1/16".

These kits sold out very fast and are now among the most collectible kits ever produced by Ludwig.

I have a sound sample of them in the studio if you'd like to listen - crank it up!

I think my Fibes set would come close, stainless over fiberglass, sounds like atom bombs going off with each hit.........LOL

Mate that was a old thread bought back to life I appreciate the input thankyou. A guy I sold some gear to ages ago landed a RD set 26" 15" 16" 18here in Perth. The shop had 12K on the kit but had it for some time then the crash hit, he walks in offers them 7K & scores it ! I have since landed a original 22" 12" 13" 16" with original LM 400 I found over in Melbourne.

If you go back onto the main page you will see the befores & afters polishing work (Thunder Down Under). When your talking highest grade S/S what is it 316L, Duplex or something else. Thanks again.
