Drumset identification

Hello drummers,

I am trying to identify a drumkit that is beign sold as 'Sonor Champion' but it is definately not Sonor. I think that this is just another OEM made in China (Japan maybe?) made of Luan. Anyone can help?

Well, it's not Sonor. Probably a Taiwan hybrid of many parts. CB 700 wristwatch lugs, Tama clone mounts etc.

Just as I thought. Wood is probably luan/philippine mahogany then?

Not worth more than a crate of beer, right?

In person I have never seen the wristwatch lugs on anything other than C.B. 700 badged drums like these in the fist pic with the open concert style toms

but here in the second pic

is a drum kit that looks identical to the kit featured here

with hardware that seems to be the same odd hybrid knock-off

of both Tama and Pearl pointed out by Teverson sr

the badges are not clearly visible, but it is easy enough

when both pics are compared, to see that they are not C.B. 700 badges

And they seem much more likely to be the Champion badges like these on the subject kit

In any event I do not think that Sonor had anything to do with making and/or marketing them

Thanx.

Do you have any idea, when these could be made? More like 70s or 90s?

tuomollo I would guess mid to late 70s

Even tough they are not Sonor or particularly valuable

I like them because they A. have the wristwatch lugs

and B. they have that odd hybrid mixture of knock-off designed hardware

by two separate and competing drum builders

A while back I bought these rusty, dusty, "mouse crapped" $5.00 cellar dwellers

A. because they were only five dollars

and B. because they carried a similar mixture of Tama and Pearl knocked off hardware

yes they are late 70´s / early 80´s.

I had two champion like yours in orange and olive green. And I use another one branded as "Apollo" for some gigs.

Good sounding drums and easy to tune and solid mounts on the bassdrum (yours is closed later).
