Drumdial edge conditioner Last viewed: 1 day ago

Has anyone used drumdial bearing edge conditioner? I'm into the idea that it would improve tuning and head contact, but I'm absolutely not sure about using this on, for instance a vintage radio king snare drum, as I don't think they are saying what the actual ingredients are. I'm sorry I don't know how to put the actual link up.

Not tried it... but have been using wax for years on wooden edges.. I used to use Paraffin (Eg a 50c white candle). Since I began woodturning as a hobby, I now use a mix of canubra & beeswax paste that I make up myself. This is normally used for burnishing and polishing woodturned items.

You just wipe it on, let it stet , later a few rotations on a cloth covered flat surface... This fills a rough cross grain, seals against moisture.. plus lubes for smooth seating of the head.

Cheers

I like beeswax but don't like using the solid bar, it's tricky to apply I think. Next time I change heads I will see if I can get it in a more ' liquid form' , that edge conditioner stuff looks realy easy to apply and will definitely help for easier tuning but I don't realy trust it's not doing the wood any long term harm unless I get convinced otherwise.

Then again no one could realy know if it's a safe bet so like you say beeswax and maybe a mix with that carnuba oil.

Use 50 50 % beeswax & candle... Heat & mix it in a small tin (outdoors) .. if its still too hard add more candle & go again.. Another thing that I would not hesitate to use is a clear leather/shoe polish...

Do you mean actually using the candle wax on the the edges with beeswax or just to heat the beeswax with the candle.!

No.. Just melt them together in the tin and stir it around... then let it cool down & set ...

Yep, I'm one of them... A few would just run a bar of bath soap around the edge too..
