Hi to All,Thanks for all reply's. I was able to get a 16" tom several years ago that matched the hardware, lugs, and bearing edges etc. Its in a Blue Satin instead of the Blue Sparkle of the rest of the kit so it doesn't look to bad . The 12"/16" combination actually is very easy to get a good tuning interval with. Someday I hope to recover the 16" to match the rest of the set for him but that's a future project. When its complete I'll post a picture. Thanks again to everyone in the forum. Dad Roadie
You cannot match that blue. No one makes anything even close to it today, that is why I suggest you look around and find a blue sparkle replacement. The blue satin will bring more than enough to offset the cost of replacing it. Blue Satin is a bit harder to find and someone out there is looking for one to finish out their kit. The blue sparkle Pearl and Star wrapped drums are a dime a dozen as it was the number one over-produced color. You should have absolutely no trouble finding a replacement, so my suggestion is to go to our "for sale" section and poke around, or post in the "wanted" section, someone has a b/s Pearl stencil that I am sure they would be willing to sell for 30-50 bucks. Again, you will never find a match in modern wraps, they just don't make anything close to it today. And on top of that, the wrap to do it, in the wrong color, will cost you at least $50, and then you will have to put it on. The labor is not fun on rewrapping drums, and these MIJ are just not really worth that much. Now, if you were going to do a veneer, you can get some veneers that are absolutely gorgeous, and the whole kits' worth of veneer could be had for around $100-$125, plus the cost of adhesive. And, some of the veneers can have a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) applied at the factory and it goes on very easily.
Good Luck and happy hunting! If you need assistance, I am certain I can find you one in less than 4 hours searching, and probably find a buyer for you blue satin at the same time.
