Drumbook/encyclopedia Level 1 out now

Loading...

Hey drummers and vintage drum lovers,

We just wanted to let all of you drummers know we have a new digital, interactive, 100% FREE, 2400+ pages drumbook/encyclopedia out called Level 1. You can download it for free here:

www.skillzdrumbooks.com

This may seem like shameless self promotion, which it of course is, but we hope that the fact it's free and educational will mean it's appreciated on VDF nonetheless. After all, who doesn't like free education?

Level 1 is gonna be updated annually so if you have any suggestion how to make it better we'd love to hear them.

We'll be sure to check in here from time to time so let's get a nice conversation going. Since it's been quite busy we can't make any promises as to the frequency of visits, but we do our best :-)

We hope you all have a great day and enjoy Level 1!

Best regards,

Bob Schillemans

I did the download and just start to look it over.

I thought that I'd share the posting on a couple of other drum forums to help support your project. It really is a great idea and a noble effort on the part of you and your team!

Here's the link to the DFO posting:

Wow Hoppy, your posts look absolutely perfect! Thank you so, so much!

This is exactly what we were hoping would happen globally: people appreciating our effort enough to start spreading the word as actively as possible.

Let's hope your efforts won't go unnoticed and they will be an incentive to others.

If you have any more ideas on how to improve our reach we'd love to hear them.

Thank you and have a great day, you certainly made ours! D' Drummer

Hey everyone,

I've also posted this is a few other places, so it may be a re-run..

Thank you for the downloads so far, keep it up! And don't think for a second that it's just for beginners because the title is Level 1. Why do you think Dave Weckl always talks about Back to Basics? Well here are 2400+ pages of back to basics for ya!

We'd like to apologize for the number of download links which have ended up in the spam folder. We're trying to solve the problem a.s.a.p. and are looking into it with our hosting service.

In the meantime, keep spreading the word, and let's hear your opinions and suggestions so we can make Level 1 better and better!

Have a good one!

Bob

VDF Members....

This is a great learning/teaching resource. The amount of information is really incredible. There is no fee associated with downloading the Skillz Drumbooks resource; you merely need to provide an active email account to receive a download code and you're good to go. I haven't seen any additional email traffic after I signed-on so I wouldn't worry about any spam issue if that's what holding you back.

The download is a legit .PDF packed with 2440 pages of info! I was scanning through it today to look for some info on odd note groupings and came across several things to practice from two different sections of the document. I posted some screen shots from the "Fills" and "Core" sections. The core section goes through grouping / combinations of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 notes using two, three, four limbs, singles and doubles, permutations, inversions. The fill material has a similar approach. See the attached screen shots for examples.

For me these concepts alone were worth the download as there are endless arrangements that the Skillz Drumbook can spark in our practice session that can transfer into to our actual musical playing!

Another handy feature is in the "Audio" section. Here selected grooves are transcribed and they have provided links to music videos from the performer so you can listen to the clip along with that transcription in the Skillz Drumbook. That makes it pretty easy on the learner!

Give this resource a shot, I really think you'll like it. They are totally open to and are actively seeking feedback so this resource can be improved. To do that there is a simple to use form on the main website, so suggest away! This is a great opportunity to create the ultimate drum instruction wiki.

Also, if you like what you see there is a way to contribute to the project - much like the many drum forums we frequent - free forums with an annual donation drive that is voluntary.

Hey VDF-ers,

We've had a lot of requests for videos over the past few weeks. The one asked mostly about was one on navigation, so here it is. The basic navigation in Level 1 explained in a 15 minutes long screencast.

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKZfCMAA-PU&"]Level 1 Screencast 00 Navigation - YouTube[/ame]

This is the first one in a series of screencasts. There will be one about every part individually. If there's anything you need other than this, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you. Just remember that if you think it's a problem there are probably thousands of drummers who also think it's a problem so besides yourself you'd be doing us and them a favor as well.

We hope this helps.

Grtz,

Bob

BINGO!

I think these tutorials will be very helpful. It's real easy to take a tour of the resource with the originator and get your perspective on the content. Also, it's a great way for folks to preview the book in case there were any reservations about downloading this great resource!

Looking forward to the next videos.
