its all the same wrap from delmar, just different online dealers with the exception of a few misc specialty wraps which vary from store to store.

I respectfully question if it is all the same vendor, but the names don't all provide the same wrap. Red onyx from Precision is not the same as red onyx from Sam's.

Precision has been good to deal with. If you are contemplating wrap for a Rogers bass drum and want the seams in the correct location, you must indicate the size of the bottom piece. Otherwise it will be too short. If you are having them do the work and you want seams accurate, tells them to replicate what is on the drum now. Even Lawton will put the seams someplace other than where Ludwig placed them from day one, and that always is a bit annoying as far as I'm concerned.

I contacted Precision about some vintage yellow for my bass to match my Tama Imperialstar toms last year. They got back to me very quickly but couldn't help me - they said they couldn't reproduce that particular yellow wrap owing to changes in the regulations for the chemicals used to make them, so the chemicals used now didn't work very well, bubbling and imperfections etc, and they told me they did not want to sell an inferior product. Fair enough, I thought, thanks for the info. However, I went on to find that Jammin' Sam and Bumwrap both carry a vintage yellow, so what's the deal there? Weird, I thought. Having said that, Precision were very helpful and communicative, so I can't knock them at all. So I actually haven't used any of their products, but can't argue with their level of service, even though they couldn't help me.

This probably is of no help to you, but thought you might like to hear my two bob's worth.

Thanks,

Trev

I've bought pre-cut sparkle and glitter wrap from them. The product was excellent and shipping was fast. Nice folks too.

The same goes for Jammin Sam. I like Jammin Sam's threaded grommets and prices on the JS sparkle wraps.

Just my opinion- The JS sparkle wraps have smaller glitter flakes and appear to be more similar to Ludwig's sparkle wraps of the 70's.

Hi Trev, I don't wanna hijack Jack's thread here. So hope I don't blab too much here. The short story.... there's a guy on ebay selling praline wrap from China in various colors. One color is white marine pearl. It is small chip pattern. But it has a translucent backer so you can see through it. You can tint some primer and paint the shell the shade of yellow you desire. And that color will show through the wrap. I used a yellow dye to tint the primer. And it's the perfect mellow yellow color. I'm re wrapping a couple Slingerland drums and trying to match the yellowed WMP originals. I'm pretty happy with the results. I did some testing on maple and mahogany scraps. Then painted the shells once I was happy with color. It's pretty easy but does take some time to get your color. I'm documenting everything and going to start a thread once I'm done. Work has been busy and some family matter to attend to. So this has delayed my progress some. You can PM me if you like and I can explain further.

I tried Drum Foundry's Creme Pearl. But it was on the tan side. I was just going to use Precision's antique WMP. Then I saw this guys wrap he was selling when a member posted some drums he did in a different color. He did the same thing and painted his shells with a base color he liked to produce the results he was after. So I took his idea and started my version of WMP.

Glenn.

I have always had good luck with Precision wraps. But, the (above mentioned) Walopus website looks interesting. MarkE

Hi Glenn, that is very interesting, never heard of that before. So technically, you could change the colour of your drums regularly! I mean if you had the energy to strip the shells every time you had a whim about a new colour!

I ended up getting JS Vintage Yellow from Jammin' Sam and it was an almost perfect match. Certainly have nothing to complain about, see the pic below.

But thanks for that info, it's a new thing to me. Got any pics of your wmp? Love to see it!

Cheers,

Trev
