Drum Strippers...Love em' or hate em'

Loading...

We've all been through this before! I've never been fond of those who strip drums purely for monetary gain. However, I have been guilty of purchasing needed parts from said persons! There is one seller in particular, who shall go unidentified, that I feel merits mention for his pricing practices over the years. I used to purchase from him when his prices were more than fair. However, over the years, I've watched this person charge more and more, for no other reason than to line his wallet. Naturally, he has the right to charge whatever he wants, but I haven't purchase from him in a very long time now, due to these high prices!

Case in point. This person is parting out a very nice COB Dynasonic snare drum. The only missing part is the snare-side head. Here are the prices...

Rogers batter head... 39.95

COB shell............... 295.95

Batter hoop............ 69.95

Snare-side hoop...... 129.95

Butt...................... 49.95

Strainer................. 229.95

Snare frame........... 299.95

10 tension rods...... 74.95

10 tension rods...... 69.95

10 lugs................. 179.95

Total ................1440.50 Does not include tax and shipping!

I'm not sure that any single item is worth the asking price, but I wish him the best of luck with his sales!!

OK, rant over!

If he gets it all sold, you can understand why he's doing it. Tough to $500 for the average COB Dyna nowadays. You do have to wonder why the snare side head was worthless. With those prices one would expect he could get $10 plus shipping even with a hole in it. :)

I have bought from them too. Usually in the "thrill of the hunt" in getting to complete a project. But $29.95 for a period correct wing screw I need? I'll wait for the next bus.

Yeah, I hear ya, Mark and agree with you 100%. I too am guilty of purchasing parts that were overpriced, but did so simply because I wanted them. I think if a seller is honest and fair with the pricing, then it makes up for a lot. There are drums which are beyond repair except for a few parts one is able to salvage. Okay, I can understand that. We've all seen those instruments. What bothers me the most is that there are unscrupulous sellers out there who would pimp their wives or mothers for a few bucks! Several years ago, a member of this forum caused a great deal of dissention simply because he sold and shipped parts in a nonchalant manner which infuriated a lot of members! There were disputes among members as to whether the parts had even been shipped. This "gentleman" is still a member although I notice that he hasn't sold anything lately. Maybe he's banned from doing so. Anyway, Mark, a great post! Very thought provoking.

There's not a single thing listed there that is worth even half what is being asked. Why would anyone buy at those prices? I imagine that lee county and matt's pickens (and counterhoop) in the end will have huge storage lockers of parts for their children to have to deal with. Almost no one buys any of this stuff, at these prices. I certainly haven't, and will never.

These sellers have ample feedback on ebay, so, people are buying from them...

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with making profit on a sale, but, this is pure greed...One would think that they would want to price their items competitively so they could turn over stock quicker...

Cheers

Hi grantro!

This is exactly my point! We certainly can't control what is being sold or the fact that perfectly good drums are being stripped. But when these parts are so overpriced that they never sell, what's the point?

When I see something like that, I can’t look at something else fast enough!

If somebody has money to burn, they might look at that again. Not me.
