The other aspect that is odd is the fluid/substance running from the tension casing mounting screw holes. Just an odd condition overall. Didn't appear to be any outside damage showing in the photos. Otherwise looked like a good drum, but I was leary about those specifics.

Looks like a drop to me. The wrap wouldn't necessarily be broken on the outside of the shell. I'd bet it was dented, though -especially at the right angle to see how the glare is in that area. If you gave it to the right person, it could probably be repaired...but...

It looks like some kind of oil was applied to the screws in that area where you see the drip marks.

Yeah. That, or slammed into a doorway, struck by angry crowd... It made me think of my one week old Ascent. Scratch and door dings. The Ascent and your drum are fine, but that stuff just sucks.
