Drop hoops

Did drops ever come with any hoops besides the heavy die cast ones with the in turned edge?

I don't think so but I don't have experience with anything older than late sixties. I do know the 12" and 13" look differently for some reason no one knows. Also they appear die cast but they are really stamped steel but very ridged and thick.

So I'm not imagining it then.

I've noticed the same thing.

One of the rims on my 13" has the in turned edge but the "ears", the points where the tension rods got thru, look like a pressed hoop.

The hoop is very heavy, with great plating.

So it is possible that it could be original.

Would they actually send a drum out of the factory with mismatched hoops?

It's unlikely the 13 had two different ones from the factory. The one you are describing sound like the original. My 13 hoop is much heavier than my 12" hoops.
