I'm actually in the process of plugging and rewraping the 12" and 20"which also had the most damaged wrap.

Since the invention of the Internet I have all the nessisary parts to make the original hardware work.

It'll never be original, but it will be one of the nicest players, and my first set of real Ludwig drums!

All is forgiven...........even the modular mounts, I guess. :)

While I agree that just installing whatever hardware is a bad idea, remember that in the 60's and 70's there were lots of drums that had to be modified to make them useable. As an example, I had a Pearl W/F kit with the original "memorilok" hardware. After I broke the mount on the 14" tom for the third time I finally had the newly introduced Vari-Set hardware installed. Those mounts were so poorly manufactured that I kept a spare in my parts kit. Sure I could have kept replacing the broken mounts but there was always the potential that the 14" would damage the bad drum if I did not notice it soon enough. I had to use the drums and needed them functional.

in the case of rim mount spurs, that is nice for a show piece kit but would render the kit useless to me if I wanted to use it in a live situation. So that is a conundrum. Do we use the drums or look at them. I am not arguing one way or another.

Hey clubdate64 ( Sorry I dont know your real name) what did you end up doing with the floor tom?

I'll just note that the Club Date kit I bought a couple months ago, un-wrapped and gouged as it may be, came with not a single extra hole in any of the shells [well except the Pioneer snare with the shuffled lugs but I'm not using it], and will remain that way while in my possession. This despite the strong urge to add a bass drum cymbal arm bracket and replace them wobbly floor tom legs. Actually I'll do the latter if I can find mounts that match the holes - anyone know of any? I have 3 Gretsch TechWare leg brackets, gonna see if they fit...

I'm going to man up and try and take what's left of the mahogany off the drum. The original wrap looked like the guy used a belt sander in spots!

Ground in melted black diamond Pearl is so pretty.

I'll be trying that tonight.
