Downbeat vs clubdate

There was a Downbeat snare drum that was, (not coincidently), a matched component of the Downbeat kit. This snare drum differentiated the Downbeat kit from other kits....for awhile.

That was back when most people bought kits and not shell packs or individual drums.

Gorgeous Red Sparkle "Club Date" on Reverb this morning, with a "dig deep" asking price. If I was still accumulating vintage drums and had the room to store it, I'd be tempted to bargain for this one..... see large link below. Regards, mb

Heavens, a half-price offer is appropriate. Inflation is not *that* rampant.

Agreed, especially with the damage to the bass drum.

I've had both. For my ear, they are generally indistinguishable in sound but both definitely Ludwig. My experience with Club Date is not as good as with the "Downbeat" setup (double lugs). That was limited to a concern for damage/bending as a result of the long length of the rods. The other issue I had with the Club Date kit was that they did not seem to remain tensioned as well. Again, the only thing that I could relate that too is the longer tension rods. Maybe they pick up more vibration because there is more steel involved and then they are more likely to loosen up?
