Do you mean the Downbeat snare drum or the drum outfit?

I just think that configuration didn't sell as well as the bigger drums. Bigger drums like the Super Classic outfit were the norm up until around 1960. Ludwig didn't even catalog a 14x14 until the late 50s. By the mid/late 60s the five piece outfits with double mounted toms were coming on strong and by the 1970s were pretty much the minimal set a drummer would want. Obviously the Downbeat configuration did sell but probably not to the degree that other outfits did, making them harder to find, relatively speaking.

They’re out there, just at the $2000+ price point! I got lucky finding the Burgundy Sparkle set I stumbled upon. They sound fantastic! Perhaps that is why they aren’t coming up as often?

Man you think there out here I just don’t see them any more and I look daily the kits un blemished are not around there out of the country every drum show another container gets loaded up and is sent out of our country I was adding the shows all over the USA and the drums that are bought and sold are mainly the USA consern as sellers and the foreign concern as buyers

Sure we have some stashed here but not me let’s take a consensus on how many dB kits are here on this forum

So are you blaming the dealers who export kits by the hundreds? I know those guys! I run into them at the shows and they tell me I’m asking too much for my stuff. Come Monday, they’re packing up 5 kits to send overseas that they made top dollar on!

I’ve never been a fan of this type of business model. Perhaps you’re right! Maybe they’re all gone and only a few remain in the US. It was bound to happen!

The same thing happened in the classic car market, the classic guitar market and other vintage markets of old American made goods. They're in big demand in Japan and other markets and they pay big dollars.

So it wouldn't be far fetched to think it couldn't happen in the classic drum market as well.

Many of those collectors' items (guitars, cars, etc.) come full circle. They find their ways back to the US. This is likely to happen with drums, too.

Jaghog...here's one I own. It's a '71. I also have a matching 9x13 and 16x16 so I can expand it whenever appropriate. But the 20/12/14 is the size and sound that suits me perfectly.

I still have my 1964 Champagne Sparkle. No DB snare though. First vintage kit I ever scored and restored!

I'm not that big a fan of the DB snare but for the OPP kit it was a must. That's a born together Transition Badge DB Outfit as well.

The Burgundy has the matching 65 Pioneer and the SBP has the matching 65 SC snare.
