Good Afternoon, Community !!
I've been in contact with Forum Administrator TommyP, and he, in turn, with our Webmaster/Owner, David for the past day or two, and I'm very pleased to have received the go-ahead about this posting!!
I have the good fortune to be the Director of Flynn Recovery Community these past four years. We are a small, 8-bed substance abuse treatment facility in Morganton, NC. We offer a 12-week holistic program of recovery, addressing the varied issues of substance abuse, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. We employ what is known as "closed sessions" as our treatment model....meaning that our eight clients all arrive at the same time, stay for 12 weeks, and complete on the same day. This nurtures the concept of "family" and an element of support through a community effort.
I am very pleased to be able to announce today that we are adding in a Music Therapy element to our program!!
We will begin simply, with a weekly drum circle, facilitated by local musicians in recovery volunteering their time.
We have the great fortune to further this effort, by partnering with Hickory Music Factory later this summer, for more services including on and off-site outings and instruction around music in recovery. Hickory Music Factory is a non-profit organization whose mission statement reads:
"Mission: The mission of the Hickory Music Factory (HMF) is to build futures through music by teaching, performance, and community outreach."
As most small treatment facilities in North Carolina, we are severely under-funded, and depend heavily on volunteers and donations to effectively deliver our program to our clients.
My hope, today, is that I can extend an opportunity to our Forum Members to assist Flynn Recovery Community in our effort to bring this Music Therapy Program to our clients.
We are asking for donations, in the form of hand percussion instruments, from Vintage Drum Forum Members.
New, used, or vintage shakers, tambourines, bongos, claves, bells, any hand percussion instruments are welcome and very much appreciated!!!!
I would encourage you to include your name and where you are from with your donation if you wish, as well as any back-story or historical information around the instrument. This would be a great affirmation of a national, perhaps world-wide sense of support to be related to our clients.
It is important to note, here, that monetary donations are not being asked for....this is against Forum policy.
If you feel led to donate to this cause, please send your packages to:
