Been looking for a 3 ply floor tom rescue project, and ran across this. Has anyone ever seen a 3 section "veneer" on the interior of '70s era B/O toms like this? Looked odd to me, and wanted a little advice before pulling the trigger on something that might not be as advertised. (badge on the shell dates to 1976 if that helps any) Thanks in advance!
Does this look Ludwig-ish to you? Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hi there!
As far as I can see, it looks like a "split cracked" inner ply.
Odd but possible...
No three sections plies from Ludwig for sure...
A few more pics could help
Regards!!!

Thanks Heraldo! Unfortunately, this is the only pic of the interior that is on the ad.

3 ply Maple-Poplar-Maple w/ maple re-rings are correct for that period (76 as you mentioned).
Let's hear other opinion about that inner ply...
Hope I could help more!!
Best of lucks!

That seems pretty odd, then again, I'm not very smart...
I wouldn't bet on it being genuine.
Currently looking for a 3-ply 24x14 Ludwig in champagne sparkle w/rail consolette and cymbal mount!
Thanks for the input guys! Honestly I just assumed it was veneer pieces from the way they ran in the picture, but I guess it could be cracks in the inner ply...either way, I think I will pass!

That does look "Ludwigish" to me, especially with that white-ish wood filler near the splits which I've seen on quite a few Ludwig drums. I guess it doesn't matter now since you're passing on it. If everything else looked right I wouldn't think it wasn't a Ludwig based just on this shell interior. Not everything they produced was made to the sort of super high standards we all expect today. It probably wasn't that apparent when new but I've seen others like that when a drum has led a hard life.
I can see the corners at the bottom of the pic, that layer does not go under the re-rings. It`s a poor laminate job and what happens when you line up seams.

Could it be a Ludwig someone added a veneer to? Does the grommet look original and the badge look untampered with?
