Does anyone here have a compete Gretsch cocktail drum?

I have a 14x24 cocktail drum - 6ply (much to my own disappointment - long story there).

I may want to restore it. I can see pictures of the drum in the on-line catalogs.

It would help me a lot if someone here has a drum and could send me a list (photos too?) - post there here maybe - of what I would need to look for ....over the years probably...to be able to complete a restoration of this fine drum.

In the third photo - is that an extra hole in the shell near the lug? Or, is this for an attachment of some kind?

I can't find a 14x24 shell with two heads anywhere in the old Gretsch catalogs - the two headed drums are all 28 and some 26.

CLUE THAT IT MAY BE AFTER-AFCTORY:

There is some silver sealer paint-over on the bottom head bearing edge.

The lugs - top and bottom - do not line up = they're staggered.

The bearing edge on the top head is like other Gretsch tom edges I've seen including my own drums. The bearing edge on the bottom head (suspect head) is different more flat and like I mentioned above has some silver sealer on it.

A complete model just showed up on eBay. Maybe those pics will help, even though it's a 28.

Thanks - it does help.

Yesterday I tried my best to salvage the tacks on the center metal band....no way it was happening. Those tacks were rusted solid in the shell's retainer band. I only save 5 out of the bunch. Heads just popped right off no matter how gentle I was to try to wiggle em out. My drum has definately got an after market bottem head. I don't think I will put that steel band back on the drum - it seems to be very sturdy as is.

I haven't decided yet to leave it as a single headed drum when re-wrapping or to put the bottom head back on. Either way it will fit perfectly with my late 50's Gold Sparkle Gretsch kit. This Cocktail drum is the very same as the floor tom in my kit (6ply) and has the silver sealer and no tag too. This is meant to be with my kit...probably went out the door around the same time = late 50's or 60. No paper tag puts it before 62 at any rate.

The little snare thingy on this drum is repairable and I have a dial that fits perfectly. I already have a beautiful set of diamond leg plates and some Gretsch legs and a badge. I have a full sheet of Vintage-style (small hexigon pieces in the sparkle) wrap - I knew that would come in handy some day.

All I need are the Purcussion add-on bits....whatever they are.

Nice job Gary this will be a very cool drum when finished. I'm glad you have a good place for it in your collection~!

Very good pics in that ebay auction of the 3 ply shell. The outer ply was very thick it seems. It's a very nice example too. Wonder how much it'll fetch?

It's actually a 6ply shell.

I was hoping all the time that it was a 3ply...I thought it was - looking at the photos it's not really clear. The one photo does look 3ply to me as well.

It was 'wishful thinking' that it was a 3ply. I should have asked the question. My mistake..live and learn as they say. I can't use it in my cadi green 3ply project but it will fit perfectly as an add-on drum with my late 50's Gold Sparkle kit. I think this drum is late 50's (60/61 at the very latest).

Oh.... sorry I was talking about the 3 ply 28" pics poppies posted in the ebay link. Didn't mean to confuse the conversation~! I knew you discovered yours was a 6 ply in the other thread.
