Do I have a Rogers drumset?

Loading...

Hi,

I'm new here, and I'm wondering if anyone can help identify my drums. I bought a 4 piece drum set last night for $275 (plus a Tama Rockstar snare), which the seller claimed was a Rogers kit from the 1970s or 1980s. Problem is that it doesn't have the beaver tail hardware, which, with my limited knowledge, is one way to indentify a Rogers drum. The Rogers logo doesn't have any serial number and the covering is a bit wrinkled. Thus, I suspect that the drums were recovered sometime back. They seem to have thin shells, maybe 5-ply. The toms are 12, 13 (short stack), and 16, each with only 5 lugs. The bass drum has only 6 lugs, with spurs that are straight, not the one inch curved tube that I've seen on 1970s and 1980s Rogers kits. If they're Rogers, great. If not, I'm not going to be disappointed because, in my opinion, the drums sound great.

Here's a picture from the add

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I think this was a Rogers R360 or R380 kit. I think it was in Oakland. The pics are gone. If you could post a pic, we might do better.

Dear Rogers enthusiasts,

Thanks for the prompt response. I will post pics soon, but I don't think anyone could discern from the pics if I have Rogers drums. Does harware, logo, and wrap equal "Rogers" or is it the sound? When I think Rogers, I'm thinking the heart of the drums, the shells and the tuning lug configuration, rather than hardware (the originals of which may have been replaced with more easily accessible and cheaper mass produced stuff).

I like the sound of the kit, if it's Rogers or not.

Though, let me be specific: Did Rogers ever produce a kit with five lug toms and six lug bass drum? If not, what era used to turn out stuff like that? 70s, 60s, 50s, etc.? I used to have Slingerland kit with five lug toms. Could it perhaps be a Slingerland?

I'm not so much a collector than an audiophile.

Yours in good drum sound,

Mark Roman

No, Rogers did not produce 5 lug toms or 6 lug bass drums. My bet is an Asian knockoff kit.

Hey all,

Thanks for the advice. An Asian knockoff, eh? I know that Yamaha bought Rogers during its decline, so perhaps that's what I got. Any other guesses who might have produced kits with 5 lug toms and 6 lug bass drum?

Thanks in advance,

Mark
