Do any of you use Evans heads on your vintage drums? Last viewed: 10 seconds ago

I've always been partial to Remo heads for my vintage drums (although I do use Evans heads quite regularly on my modern drums and many of my snares, whether vintage or modern). I'm also a fan of the bass drum head options that Evans puts out. So, here's the reason for my post - I just can't seem to dig Evans heads for my vintage toms. I've used them, but I always seem to want to get some Remos back on those tom batters. I find that I try really hard to like the Evans offerings because they're typically much cheaper, but my tom preference still lies with Remo. I know that this is all personal preference, but I'm interested in hearing what you guys have to say on the subject. Has anyone found an Evans combination that they really like on their toms?

I suppose it would also help if I told you what shells I'm currently playing on:

- mid 60's Ludwig Downbeat 12,14,20

- 1959 Ludwig trans badge 13,16,22

- 1971 Ludwig B/O badge 13,14,16,18,24

- early 70's Gretsch SSB 12,12,16,20

Its always Remo for me,however,can't say much about tom's with Evans but speaking of vintage I acquired a Slingerland Hollywood Ace snare from the 1960s that was challenging getting the sound I wanted until I purchased an Evans G-plus.The sound is amazing.I dont even know if those heads are being made anymore.They were on clearence at GC for $5

I've got the EMAD on my 20" 1970 DownBeat bass, and I am extremely happy with the way it sounds. I had a late 90s Ludwig coated head on there when I found my kit, and this is worlds above.

Can't speak for the toms etc, too new to this to have tried them yet. :)

Surrounded by drummers here! (I am a guitarist.)

Well, I always use Evans J1 ETCHED heads on any vintage kit I am going to PLAY. Love the tonality & warmth. That said, I have not gone back to REMO to do a side-by-side comparison. & I just put one on a '64 J-Fest that I'm not crazy @ yet,

As one who works on vintage drums, I've leaned towards Evans quite a bit because of fit -- they always fit better, as sometimes Remos can be a little tight.

However... I just got an order in Saturday, with my first lot of their new "360" heads (http://www.evansdrumheads.com/Level360.Page). I'm excited to give these a try...

I started a thread on DFO about these new 360's. I heard they might fit oversized shells better. Would love to hear your findings Bill. I haven't bought any just yet.

G1 batters and J1 resos on 8x12 and 14x14 Gretsch RB, 6 ply toms. Better fit than Remos and a tad warmer as well. Looking forward to trying the new Level 360s!

Never play it the same way once.
