Different Models of Ludwig 1400 Stands

Loading...

I use two different models of the Ludwig 1400 flat base cymbal stand. Both have the tear drop shaped tilter. One secures the legs to the bottom tube by using a wing bolt attached to a collar. Loosening or tightening the bolt allows the legs to fold in or out. The other employs a wing bolt and large washer to loosen or tighten the legs to a circular base. The bottom of this base is stamped 'Zinc Die Cast" with the numbers 2423 also present. I have always believed the circular base stands were earlier, maybe early to late sixties and the ones using the wing bolt on a collar came around the late sixties to early seventies. I certainly am no Ludwig expert though! If anyone can clarify the time frame for me, I would be very appreciative. Thank you very much.

Hi Brian,

I am a relative newbie to the site but wanted to try and help.

Please see the photo below...is these the 2 stand bases you are asking about?

My understanding is the circular base stand came with the Ludwig Standard hardware from about 1968-1974 and the other traditional stand base was from about 1956-1982

Hope I have shed some light on the subject and not misled you though there are more knowledgeable people on this site than myself who would be able to provide more concise information on this subject. :)

Ludwigboy!

Yep, those are the beauties I was trying to describe! Thank you so very much for your time and expertise. I should have thought of Ludwig Standards because at one time, I had a Standard hi-hat with the same base. Again, thank you very much, sir!

Glad to help! Perhaps others have more information. Incidentally, I also have a Ludwig Standard hi hat with that circular base :)

Take care Brian!

Thanks, Chris! I really appreciate your time and trouble. I'm in Port Colborne, ON. Are you far? Good to hear from a fellow Canadian!
