Difference btwn Ludwig Hi hat stands?

Loading...

Can someone please give me a relative time frame when these 3 different types of Ludwig Hi hat stands were used?

1.) Flat based stand

2.) Not sure exactly what this next model is called but here is a picture:

3.) "Arched Back"

I know the flat based stands ussually sell for the most money, but why? Can it be just the "Ringo factor"?

What is the next highest selling?

Am I missing any other 60's era hi hat stands?

The "best" stand is #2, It's called the "Atlas" or also the "Big Beat" hi-hat. It's the one that has the adjustable spring tension -great stand, in my opinion. I think it came out around '67-'69 -I think

Ha ha..now I'm confused. The Flat base stand, model 1121 (sock pedal?) and I've seen the model # 1123 for it too, I'm assuming are more rare and more costly.

The 1123-1, (2nd pic) Spur-Lok seem much more avaliable.

The Big Beat or Atlas, like O-Lugs claims are good, I'd take his word for it.

I guess it depends if you're trying to authenticate a particular kit, etc.

You can see in the drum guide on this site the approx. time frames.

There was also a "Standard" hi-hat....just for the record. It came out in the late 60's ('68 or so) It was extremely simple in it's design. It had a unique look to the footboard. Some people really like them.

There was also a model before the flat base 1121. The flat base hi-hat stand with button feet and WFL SpeedKing footboard. These show up on e-bay fairly often. Cheers.

You've got them all, excepting the Standard as O-Lugs stated.

The best of the bunch is the Big Beat, it's small but sturdy design makes for a long lasting fun to play piece that you'll own forever.

I've modified mine to accept using a double pedal. Quite simple really. The bottom cross member is merely press fit, just tap it up with a rubber mallet and spin it to the desired spot and tap it back down. I've done 3 of them and they work great!!!
