Greetings,
I picked up this older pair of A. Zildjian hats for a great price. They are very unusual and I've never seen this "design" on a pair of Zildjian hi-hats before. The top cymbal has a flange all the way around on the outside, almost identical to what the old Sabian "Sound Control" cymbals had. Just a slight curve upward, again just like the Sound Control cymbals. I thought this might be due to the top cymbal being thin and stomping on it over the years would invert the edge of the top cymbal slightly, but there is no way that's the case. It's too perfect and even for that to be the case. It for sure looks like it was made that way.
Anyone ever seen this before? I haven't played them yet but it seems like a great way to eliminate air lock, although it might be tough to get a very tight, ultra staccato sound out of them. I enclosed two photos of the top cymbal below. I highlighted in red some of the slight flange that goes all the way around the cymbal. You can also see it in the stamp close up.
Thanks!
V
