Did I do OK on this Slingerland snare? Last viewed: 10 seconds ago

Loading...

I have been reading about Ludwig and Rogers for a little while but I just started learning about Slingerland so I wasn't real sure what this was. Maybe a student model. Only 6 lugs.

I love WMP and if the badge is the correct badge, this would be a late 50's snare.

Looks kind of white to be that old. Hopefully, not a re-wrap.

Looks like a mahogany interior with reinforcing rings in the one picture.

I saw it and grabbed it kind of quickly thinking $99 was pretty cheap. I hope I did OK.

Any comments? Thanks

You did just fine. That's a sweet old Chicago snare. Nice grab.

Agreed, you did just fine on that snare. Just to warn you, once you go Slingerland you never go back! Cool Dude

Thanks guys. I hope he sends it out quickly. He has some bad feedback about taking weeks to ship items.

Thanks again for the input.

Looking at that picture, the WMP looks very bright. Too bright for a 50 year old WMP. At least from what I have seen of my Ludwigs and Rogers WMP pieces.

Did Slingerland WMP hold up extra well (generally speaking) compared to Ludwig and Rogers?

Nothing worse than a re-wrap....... unless, I guess it's my wife. She could use a re-wrap. In fact, she could be completely restored. ;)

Hmmmm? Restoring vintage wives? I may have stumbled onto a new hobby.

I can see it now.... Vintage Wife Forum. Ask a question... get a slap.

Well, I guess that's for another thread.

Thanks again for the input.

I have a 1963 Slingerland Hollywood Ace that has the same exact type of WMP and it is super white like that.

It has to be original.

The only thing I see pointing to something not original is that there is a tone control.

It's not mentioned in the catalog during the period of time that badge covers.

You could get the optional triple flanged rims instead of the straight hoops and clips on the Special Student Model, but an optional tone control is not mentioned.

However, it seems that you could order just about anything special from Slingerland, and they would oblige.

And then again, I like my BLT on untoasted white bread, so there you go....

Wow! I got this yesterday and I am very pleased so far.

I took it apart and there is almost no difference on the wrap under the rims. Very nice and bright all over. And, I believe what little discoloration is present is more dirt than fade. I expect this will clean up nicely.

All I need is new heads and snare (and, yep, that was a calf skin head) and it should be ready to play.

I have to wonder how different this will sound than the Ludwig Pioneer I got a while ago. They both have similar shells mahogany/whatever/mahogany with re-rings. Both have 6 similar size lugs. With identical heads and tuning, I am expecting this to sound very close to the Ludwig.

In any event, for 100 bux, I'm darn happy.

Thanks again to all for the guidance and input. Great place.
