Did Camco make acrylic snare drums?

Loading...

Hi fellas,

Just like the title of the thread asks, did Camco make acrylic-shelled snare drums? I was watching a video today that was filmed in 1991 and in some scenes the drummer had a clear-shelled snare drum, looked like a 14"x5" drum that clearly had the DW/Camco lugs on it.

At first I was stumped, because I don't think DW has ever made any acrylic snares, and certainly not at the time the video was recorded, but then the Camco connection clicked in my head and I wondered if it could have been a vintage drum.

However, I know very little about Camco, and couldn't dig up much about them either.

I suppose the only other option is it could have been a one-off custom snare or a special job done by DW.

Thanks in advance!

hey there,

It might be a Hayman drum. They're English made and have similar lugs to the Camco drums. I've seen a clear acrylic Hayman snare before...

cheers,

Zickos made acrylic drums and (at least for a while) they used all Camco hardware so that could well be what you're seeing.

Three Dog Knight's drummer had a kit, currently residing over the door of the Hollywood Pro Drum Shop (where I am hoping to be in about two hours).

Hope that helps.

I went back and pulled a couple of screen caps from the video and tried to get as good of a shot of the drum as I could. Here's the two best I could find:

Any other ideas?

Definitely Hayman - they did a plexiglas (lucite/acrylic) kit called the Iceberg series.
