decisions, decisions

I want to own and play a classic drum kit. For the sound, not the look so much. I live in a place where there are NONE. So I have two choices at the moment.

a) Import Keller 6 ply maple shells and fit existing Japanese hardware to them

b) Buy a Rogers kit that has been stripped and refitted with Pearl fittings. It is mostly 60's; one Big R tom. No snare.

The cost is about the same. What would you do and why?

Thanks so much for your time.

Personally buying any new shells would be silly if your going for the vintage sound.I would buy the Rogers and make it a restoration project. This way you have a vintage kit that will give you a vintage sound and once fully restored you'll have an even sweeter kit that you put your heart into.

18 Kits & 40+ snares..

I'd hold out for a complete vintage kit. If it's just for playing, you can probably find a complete vintage set with some modifications that would make it relatively inexpensive.
