Decent Deal on a Champagne Sparkle Club Date....Ebay

Not mine!

Not a bad deal with the make an offer feature. WFL Speed King Included! No snare, though.

I'm not a Ludwig expert, but with the floor tom being a B/O badge and natural interiors, it wouldn't have come with those leg brackets, right? Are they the same hole spacing as the Classic 1216 brackets? Also, in the last photo, the rack tom is missing the muffler. Does that look like a "baseball bat" hole pattern? Kind of tough to tell (assuming the Evans logo is 12 o' clock, the holes are at about 5:30).

Anyway, they look to be in great shape in the very desirable 12/14/20 configuration. Interiors look perfect. No mention of a date stamp anywhere. Interiors are so good (Bass/Rack), they almost look repainted. Might be worth asking a few questions.

Pics for posterity. Just wanted to spread the word if someone is looking. Again, they are not mine.

Thanks,

V

All orphan drums and club dates, probably not too great of a deal, but still nice

The Blue Olive era Club Date floor toms did still have the push button mounts/straight legs. They may have a Ludwig block logo as opposed to the earlier style. 1216 mounts do not line up with Club Date style mounts.

We're not supposed to criticize asking prices posted by forum members. Since this is not posted in the forum by a member, I guess that it's OK for me to say that I think the asking price for this group of drums with a mismatched floor tom is too high. If the best offer the seller receives is $1,000 delivered to the buyer, that would be a good deal.

What? Where did you read/see this?

My understanding is that prices can be criticized all day long if you want...BUT...IF you decide to disparage the seller on a personal insult level, forum member or not, then that's a no-no.

Not too long ago, we had a member who would prowl Ebay and when he saw a price that he didn't approve of, he would come here and use the forum to call the sellers "idiots" or the like. He seemed to want to use this forum as his own public soapbox. He's no longer here, thankfully.

I was scolded by the admin or the owner that saying the member's asking price was too high. I did not call the seller any names. The closest I may have come to that was to say that the asking price was crazy.

Well, I mean...I can kind of understand that the exact way a comment is worded can vary how the readers might interpret something like that in a negative way -depending on the tone of it. Since we have such a small community of "regulars" here, we sometimes get a little familiar with each other, but I think it's best, in general, to try and consider how one might feel if some of the comments were cast the other direction.

The price I want for any of MY drums is "crazy" for sure. But I'm not crazy or an idiot for pricing them such. I just don't want to sell them....until I find someone who has crazy money to spend....in which case I say, "Welcome to the asylum!"

What is really crazy is that, for several years, Ludwig made and sold maybe three times the number of "Ringo" colored drum sets as many other wraps. This means that there are three times as many "Ringo" wrap drum sets out in the world compared to some of the other more common wrap. So, people who want to sell their "Ringo" drums have the unrealistic notion that they can sell them for three times the price of a Red Sparkle or Black Diamond Pearl set of identically configured drums. Maybe the "Ringo" drums can command a little more more money than the others if they are in comparable condition. Please note that my estimate of three times is a guess. But, we all know that Ludwig did the astute business move by going for all they could wring out of the Ringo connection.

Sure they did. And I don't blame them. In those days, The "Big Four" were in fierce competition with each other (especially Ludwig and Slingerland). It wasn't just a matter of who made "the best" drums (because that will forever remain subjective). It was also about which company could get them into the hands of the public. Ludwig was better at it than anyone else. The Supras, The Acrolites, All the SUPER stars of drumming who endorsed them.......All the schools that contracted with Ludwig. There are just more Ludwig drums, in ANY capacity in the world. The drums are not what we would call "rare" in that regard. BUT, finding complete, matched kits with all the proper hardware in great shape, is extremely challenging. After 40-60 years or so, most of these drums have been played hard and put away wet. Imagine how many Citrus Mod kits are sitting in their cases, untouched out there! -not many (if any at all). But, if one is found, then even 3 x 3 x 3 the price won't come close! Usually, when you DO see something like a rare drum, these days, it's been painted, covered with glue, dunked in a swimming pool and smashed under a steamroller. ;)
