Ddrum snare question.

Loading...

Hey y'all, first post. I know it's not a vintage drum so I hope it's cool to post here.

I recently picked up a 13x7 ddrum ash shell. There was no hardware. I ended up putting some hardware from a sound percussion snare. All the lugs fit perfect.

When I put it together, I noticed the tension rods look funny. They are not straight. Another thing I thought was odd was I used shorter rods on the bottom rim, but I had to use longer rods for the top?

Take a look at the picture and see what you think. Am I gonna need to find different lugs or is this ok?

Thanks,

Steve

That does seem odd. It looks like the bottom rods are not as splayed as the top. How does it sound, I don't think it would be a problem. Nice looking drum.

Welcome to the forum. My guess is that this drum has a slightly smaller diameter than the usual 13 inch snare, and the normal lugs are a little taller than usual to line everything up. I don't see it being a problem as is honestly.

It's also possible the top hoop is from a different drum altogether. As for the seeming misaligment, all lugs are not equal. You will find that many are not as tall as others and do not stand off the shell as much, and that is what causes this to happen
