Dating Rogers drums?

Loading...

Hi!

Im checking out some Rogers drums, apparently from 1964, but can't figure out what kind of drums they are, and if they are from a good era in the Rogers history or not. I have reed that drums with beaver tail lugs is the best drums from Rogers, but the once Im looking at only have it on the floor tom.

Is there any way you could help me out by looking at the pictures and tell what kind of drums these are, and if its a good or bad Rogers production?

Thank you so much!

Link to pictures of the drums:

Those drums are from the BEST era in Rogers history! The little I can tell you with any confidence is; the script badges look correct for the period, and the front hoop on the bass drum doesn't look original. Other than that, it looks like one sweet Rogers Cleveland kit!

Our resident expert, the Ploughman, will be along soon and he'll give you the straight poop on the kit. 12000 Kr. in US funds (dollars/Dead Presidents) is about $2,100.00 which is in the ball park of that kits fair market value. It's high though. I'd try to get him down quite a bit.

Welcome to VDF!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Honestly, I know very little about these drums.

What I can tell you is this......... They are Rogers, made under license in England by Bosey Hawks/Ajax. They are the real deal. They are 1963, with the floor tom being a later drum than the rest. They have Bread and Butter Lugs. Snare drum is an early BB Powertone. They are nice drums.

There are people who know far more about English Rogers than I do. There was an article in Not So Modern Drummer Magazine recently, featuring Dave Clarks English Rogers set. The author of that article is probably the most knowledgable person alive on English Rogers Drums. NOMDM is available on the web, and the author of the article does post on drum forums.

Oyvind,

These are high quality drums in what appears to be excellent condition, but regarding the lugs, the Beavertail lugs replaced the Bread and Butter lugs (B&B) because the B&B had a tendancy to crack around the thread insert. You may want to determine how many of the B&B lugs are cracked. This shouldn't disuade you from the sale as these cracks are common and almost expected, but should help you negotiate the price. Good luck acquiring this beautiful set.

yeah the floor tom is definitely mid/late 60s cuz of the beavertail lugs and the kick drum and tom are '63 or older cuz of the bread&butter lugs-
