Dating 13" Zildjian Hi Hats

Loading...

Hello everyone,

I wound up with this set of 13" Zildjian Hi Hats and I'm trying to learn more about them. I know they are quite old but I just can't seem to figure out what era they came from. I've heard this is the place to go for dating vintage cymbals so I thought yall could help me out! Here are some pictures of the cymbals:

Welcome jguiles.

Late 1950s small stamp I'd say. Here's why:

In addition, the inked HI HAT on the bottom of the one on the right is in the tall thin style of ink which is another 30s to 50s thing. The shape of the letters changed in the 1960s (and again in later decades). Early ink (30s - 50s):

60s ink (scroll down to see some ink):

Those might be New Beats (bottom heavier than the top), or they might be about the same weight, or they could be some other pairing. I can tell you more if you tell me the weights.

Looks to be a nice set of hats. Love the hats from that particular era. The patina seems to match as well. May have been together for quite some time. Sound nice?

I love the sound! They have a bright and almost earthy sound to them. They're a lot more reactive than my big 14" new beats and I'm not sure which is the top and which is the bottom they seem to sound the same both ways. I was thinking of selling them when I knew nothing about them but they are too cool I think I'll hang on to them now.
