Date This Snare?

Hello,

I recently purchased a 60's Ajax snare i liked. There are some issues with it firstly the original wrap has been removed and it has been stained, it doesn't look to bad but i would have preferred it with the wrap. Also the bottom hoop is broken and will need replacing at some point but its just a minor thing.

Other than this the lugs and hoops are in good condition despite its age and will just need some TLC to get their shine back. The snare mechanism is in working order and it has the original snare wires.

However i am struggling to identify the age/model of the snare it has the uncommon 16 offset lug arrangement of the earlier Ajax models (57-60) but the more modern badge used 60-67. Included in the pictures is one of a snare i found on the internet which (excluding the wrap and badge) looks very similar but is 14/4.5 whereas mine is 14/5.5.

If any of you could shed some light on this drum it'd be greatly appreciated,

Neil.

There were no double ended bullet lugs made by Ajax, so all of the snares that were shallow enough for the lugs to interfere with each other had offset lugs ,irregardless of when they were made.

Your drum will have a serial# inside and that will help date it but the badge is also a clue as you have identified.
