Daniel Humair design pedals

Loading...

Here two pedals designed by Daniel Humair.

First is well famous, the ASBA Caroline, the story is know, Daniel 's daughter gave her name to the model. That one was played by a lot of drummers in the late 60's and 70's.

I must say that since the first time i play with, i did not play other pedal.

Soft, confortable, quicky, like and old favorite shoe. Cool for the wood hoop.

The other is the Daniel Humair SONOR model. That one is more powerful, but still have the softly and confortable that was the profil of the Caroline.

The sonor is my emergency pedal (with a CAmco-Tama)

I have no experience with either the Caroline or the Sonor 'Humair', however I imagine that the Humair is lighter than my Sonor 'Phonic'. Although the Phonic has superb action and build, it is very heavy.

European made pedals of all types get short shrift on this forum but many of them are clearly , some of the smoothest, quickest and most durable of pedals. One of the achilles heels ,of some of them , are the leather straps. Once this goes, the pedal often gets disposed of and is seen as a "defect", yet , no other linkage is as effective as a leather strap or as easy to replace . I will take almost any of those , any day over, most of the clumsy imprecise metal linkages or idiotic, sloppy, unlubricated chains that overpopulate the pedal world.

The Caroline , is a beautiful mod. of the leather strap idea and the Daniel Humair Sonor pedal is right up there too but these are just two of a whole group of terrific , brilliantly designed pedals out of Europe. The Sonor Phonic, is somewhat unique ,in being a good metal linkage design.----only gripe I have with them , is how annoying it is to unhang and rehang the spring to the bellcrank and get the shaft out of the housing, if it is necesssary( and it often is) to re- tighten the bellcrank to the shaft.

It would be nice to see more Euro pedals brought forward and talked about.

I'm with you except for your complaints about the Phonic.

I don't see anything difficult about unhanging/rehanging the spring... seems pretty straightforward to me.

Re other European pedals: my favorite is the Premier 252. Again, the only disadvantage being its schlep weight, though I've never had to disassemble it!
