Cymbals should be measured by radius

Not a question, but more of a rant. I'm not asking, I'm telling. :P

Here is why I think it makes more sense to measure cymbals by radius. First of all, Hi Hats! the difference in diameter between a metric 14" (35cm) and an Imperial sized 14" is 3/8 of an inch, but when you pair these cymbals together you have a mere 1.5/8 of an inch overlap. The Cymbals are mounted at the centre, but we measure them by diameter. The playing surface is from the centre hole to the edge. 16" hi hats are one inch larger than 14" hi hats. That is all, Thank you.

Just to continue on with my thought. I think it might even be more confusing to start calling 14" hats 7" hats and I've already established that measuring the diameter is useless, so, we should just give them letters from A to K.

For sale Zildjian K size A and a nice Zildjian A size K. That wouldn't be confusing at all.

Double D size Sabian AA? Works for me. How about pants sizes? Can you show me something in a 34 slim? And bring me some options. That could also work.

OK I`m lost. If you measure the radius, you have the diameter. How is measuring the radius gonna give you a different reading ?

If you have a 14" bottom hi hat and a 13" top hi hat you'll see that when they're on the stand together there's actually a half inch difference if you measure edge to edge.

It`s a half inch times two because two radius make a diameter.

Two halves make a hole so you can put it on the stand. Clever !!
