If Purdie's is ANYTHING like Vintagemore's (and I think it is), $50 is a STEAL!!!!

I'm not taking anything away from Johns Fiber Anvil case, but mine and his are nothing alike, Mine is a real ATA case. Back in the day new it would of set you back $300,00
I didn't know which one he had. Even the non-ATA fibre Anvil cases are better than 75% of what's out there.
I think the ATA case you have would probably set you back quite a bit more these days, and you could probably pass it down to your children!!!

Heck i been using a soft bags for years ....I am getting tires every time i take my cymbals out of the bag it will have a few scratch's on them ...Brass will scratch real easy if you don't watch out what you are doing ...I hate that ...
Just trying to figure out what kind of lite wood can i make this case out of .
See i have problems carrying stuff ...Really hurts my arms and hands ....

I know it sounds silly, but do you put your cymbals in plastic bags or T-shirts? I do, especially since I play Paiste Colorsound-coated cymbals exclusively.
Pine is good.

So i can still use my bag if i can get the slip covers to fit them .....
plastic bags or T-shirts >>>>>>>You quote
Plastic slip covers will wear out in due time
T shirts want wear out that fast ....Right
How about the stuff that is made out of a jogging suit .That fuzzing lining ...That is pretty soft don't you think .
But that is a lot of stuff to actually make a slip cover just for even one cymbal .LOL.
I can fine old shirts that i am not wearing any more i guess .,Hell i was thinking about putting a rubber washer on the front and back of the cymbals and just lock it down with a big bolt and nut ....
God this is going on long. I have a soft bag from Guitar Center (that's right, Guitar Center), that has felt liners that go between each cymbal. Even has a separated, additional compartment for my hats and a zippered bits pouch. I used to carry 4 cymbals (21", 20" 18" & 17") and my hats with no issues. Build one out of pine and metal and have fun carrying that around; maybe add wheels.
Now where's that dead horse........(not to offend, but evidently, the previous practical advising seems to be getting ignored).

Or, you could do what Bill suggests.

My answer to your question:
Plywood is the best bet. Rabbet all non-access edges on a router table and then glue them and use an air nailer when assembling. You can line it with some old sheet insulation if you have any laying around. They make liquid nails specifically for that stuff. One thing I would do is use a bolt that was small enough to still fit a cymbal hole with a sleeve over it.
My advice:
Buy the one off of Purdie. You can't build one half as good for that price.
have a wonderful evening

I have two cymbals bags both can hold all of my cymbals what i have
Don't have that many to carry in a bag ...One i think it hold a 22 or 24 inch and down
and the other just fits just fine is not as big as the 22 or 24 is ..I think i will keep my bag and just forget about building a box ....it's to much time and i guess lots of money that i don't have to buy the stuff to make it . The bag is simple
