I'm looking at this MIJ kit for sale relatively close to me. What do you folks think these cymbals are? I'm thinking old A's with maybe a Zyn thrown in. Am I fooling myself & they are MIJ cymbals (Kingston or something) or are these potential 60's A's in your opinion? Thanks for your opinions!

Hard to say for sure. I think worth looking into though.

They have that nickle-silver look to them. But I agree with Mike, check them out to be sure.

I would ask the seller to look closely at the cymbals for stamps and report back, and tell them you're willing to pay a little more if they have the stamps you want. Unless of course the kit is cheap enough that it doesn't matter!

Also a side anecdote. A friend once emailed and asked me to look a few pictures of a drum kit he was thinking about buying. In the photos I could see a few cymbals, but they were all warped and clearly old MIJ brass beginner types. The kit was a good deal though, so I told him to go for it. I think the price for the kit (Stewart in Red Sparkle) was about $125.

A week later I went to his place to help him clean them up and give him some pointers on heads/tuning, and there was a beautiful old set of paper thin Zildjian hats, an 18" A Zildjian thin from the 50s, and a newer first-run Sabian AA dry ride. Over in a rubbermaid bin I spotted the "original" bent brass ones. The good cymbals came in a wood box that was in the original pictures he sent me, but I hadn't noticed because it was just a wood box.

I was jealous. haha. What a score.

10 lug snare and that ride looks like an A. Like the others said, ask the seller to confirm. You probably will need to hold his hand and tell him where to look. Good luck Andy.

Keep fixing them up...

If you do all that and the price goes up, they are still nice cymbals and ten lug snare.

I had a ten lug CB snare, it was good sounding and I had no issues with it. Now I have kit matching snares but am glad that thing was OK.
