Hello, forum,

I bought a Ludwig Vistalite kit in Smoke (no, not a cloud of!) back in the mid-80s, and it included a 14" floor tom mounted as the deepest rack tom. On top of a 24" bass drum, it sits higher than I'd like, but that's only part of the issue.

The real issue is that the shell is warped such that the bearing edge is bent inward (imagine taking a toilet paper roll and push the cardboard in toward the center about as deep as your finger's width). I don't play that side of the drum, but regardless - the drum sounds like a$$.

Has anyone here ever cut a Vistalite drum, reducing the depth? Since this is an older drum, I believe the bearing edge is (crappy) flat, so I should only need to cut and sand, but the question is with what blade to cut. I'm thinking as fine-toothed a blade as possible, but any pointers on type of saw, finish of blade, etc? (Then comes the drilling, but I've seen posts about that already).

Thanks!

Eric
