custom snare

This is a snare I home-made out of several vintage parts I had lying around. It's 14 x9,5. Ingredients:

-Very thin (2 mm) maple shell

-Home-made oak wood re-rings with round over b-edges

-lugs & screws I don't know the brand-name of

-home-made wrap (fabric & laquer)

-premier die-cast hoops

-old beverley strainer which handle was broken. I repaired it with a round piece of chrome over metal that I cut off of a snare-stand that I customized.

I used it at a band rehearsal and was pleasantly surprised by it's sound. Loud, punchy, yet warm. wide dynamic range.

Total costs: 3 euro's for the fabric. :)

simply cut and planed thin plys of oak, about 2 mm. made a mold, exactly fitting the shell and perefctly round. then glued 4 plys of oak on the inside. using clamps. cut b-edeges after drying.

quite some work, but hey, it's a hobby.
