Custom Offset Swivomatic Bass Drum cymbal rod Last viewed: 1 hour ago

You ever feel cramped for room while playing a 22" or 24" ride cymbal mounted on a straight shaft Rogers cymbal rod? Anything larger than a 20" on my kit and I feel like I need some more room to stretch out. I'm a small guy too so I can only imagine what the bigger guys feel like!

I'm sure I'm not the first to do this, but today I got a little creative and fashioned an offset cymbal rod out of an extra hex floor tom leg, one long tension rod and a Swivomatic tilter.

I wanted to share the steps taken to make one in case anyone else would like to create one for their self.

Drill hole and tap with 12-24 threads to accept a standard tension screw.

Clean hole and screw. Apply Loctite or Super glue to prevent from backing out. Insert screw until it bottoms out.

Cut off excess screw to the correct length to allow Tilter body to seat onto hex rod 1/4".

Tighten set screw on tilter and you're done!

Pretty simple and works great. This gives roughly 3" of offset in any direction within 360 degrees.

I've done that by using 2 tilters on a regular 18" hex rod.

Thanks guys. Two tilters does the same job but I had to improvise with what I had laying around at the time. Looks a little odd but works great! If I ever need the FT leg back I will just back the screw out or cut flush.

I used a Rogers Swivomatic cymbal extension arm to do essentially the same thing when combined with a simple "disappearing" cymbal rod. We drum nerds can cobble together some interesting pieces of hardware.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Great idea!

I find that a swivo extension tilter does the trick.
