Crown Snare

Loading...

Here's one of my first snares. It's a "Crown."

Very intereting hoops, aside from the snare strainer.

Anyone familiar with these?

I have never seen this type of snare. It is really cool looking though. How does it sound? The lugs look the Pearl Sound King copies. Is that strapping tape on the snares? TAMA uses strapping tape instead of plastic strips for attaching the snares to the strainer.

I haven't played it in decades. I just dug it out to post here. Yes, one of the straps looks like origional tape. The hoops are really cool, as they are curled over. I want to try them for rim shots later.

Have you tried putting a quarter in the slot and pulling the lever?

Funny Post

I've never seen a Crown snare with that hardware before. Here's my 1963 version.

There's more to the story: I opened the cheap plastic drum key holder and found a mint Rogers drum key (I had a set when I was young) and a real old beat up Slingerland key.

Hey Bobby, does it still have the original heads? Are they SoundMaster or KingStone?

And if you decide to let go....Please, I'd love to add it to my "oddities of snares" collection. I have some really cool stuff, but they are just hard to find, not unique, like this one. Maybe our friends Mikey and or cn679 know more about this. Or Ralf, if it is a Star.

I'll probably hold on to it, since it was one of my first drums, but I'll let you know if I decide otherwise.

I'm not sure about the heads. I see no markings, but I can't ever remember changing them, However my Uncle had the drum for a while in 70's.

I'll take another video so you can see more of the inside. I always mess up trying to resize picures.

Is the collar white plastic? Those would be the very early original heads.
