Finally finished restoring this 20/12/14 Crown kit. Age has improved them and with new Ambassadors all around, it sounds surprisingly great. Might be a nice little gigger.

Very nice looking kit. Like the blue diamond pearl finish. What seems odd to me are the floor tom and bass drum are 6 lug but the tom is 8. Usually it's the other way around, or the tom with only 5 or 6 lugs, correct? Still a very cool kit....congrats!

Thanks Olimpass and very perceptive on the lugs. This was my first drumset as a kid in 1966. The original 8x12 (6 lugs) was warped so severely that I had to find a replacement. Finally found a Crown 8x12 on eBay and then had to remove the wrap from another tom and rewrap the replacement. I was an 8-lugger, so rather than drill new holes, I went with it. The bass and FT are the originals. Explains why this took me about a year to finish!

Always nice to have the kit you've had as a kid. Sentimental goodness.

Beautiful, just beautiful! Loving the look of that set! Do you have the accompanying cymbal stands? I'd love to see some more pics of those drums all set up for playing. Love that deep blue wrap!!!

Great looking kit! Congrats on finishing your project...very satisfying! I'll be taking my '66 Star 12/14/22 out for its 1st gig Thursday. I think it's going to be a great, small to medium venue, set.

Have fun!

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. I feel the same way about the color and never understood why it wasn't more popular with the big 4 American brands. Here are a few more pics with things set up. Planning to play out with it tonight in a very small venue. Good luck with your gig, Brian!

Ahhh... excellent Crown's! And beauty's as well! Nice job!

My first kit was a Gold Sparkle Crown, 20, 12, 14 with a very annoying COS snare. I was able to do just a bit better by yanking the cheap strainer off the drum and replacing it with a P-83. I sold that kit, and snare, around 1970.

A couple years back, I saw a C/L add for a Crown snare, so I went to look. Darned if the snare didn't have a P-83 on it. Who knows, but at $20.00, I bought it. I'm not 100% positive, but kinda think that it's my old snare... no clue what ever happened to the rest of the kit.
