A Swish cymbal is essentially a longer sustained China cymbal.

I find this thread interesting because I also have no idea what the differences are between all these similarly "bent" cymbals. I have over 20 Zildjians (Rides, Crashes, Splashes and Hats), but have never felt the need for a china, swish, or trash cymbal.

I have no problem admitting my ignorance on the subject, so... why are some of these played bell-side up, while some are played inverted with the bell mounted downward?

I play my China's, well I only ever had two of 'em, whichever way keeps the leading edge of the cymbal turned down so it doesn't chew up my sticks when I blast it on the edge.
